Frederick William Vear was a councillor for South Ward on Camberwell Council and a prominent resident of Hartwell.

Life

Frederick Vear lived in Burwood for the first part of his life[3], at least until 1917 when is recorded as living in Healesville.[4] He eventually returned to settle in Hartwell before his death in 1945.

He applied for a patent for "an improved lamp for catching and destroying codlin moths and other flying insects".[2]

Family military service

Frederick Vear's son, Kenneth William Vear, enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (AIF) to fight in World War One in March 1916 at the age of 23. He served in B Company of the 37th Battalion of the 3rd Australian Division as a signaller, first being promoted to the rank of corporal, lance-sergeant and finally sergeant. His unit was shipped to France in November 1916 on the completion of their training. He was wounded in action on 7 June 1917 but returned to active service shortly afterwards.
