Collins Bridge is a pedestrian and bicycle bridge across the Yarra River in Kew. It connects Gipps Street in Collingwood to the eastern (Boroondara) bank of the River.

Etymology

It is named for Cr. A. Collins, a former councillor and mayor of the City of Collingwood, who was advocated for a bridge to be built across the Yarra River from Gipps Street.[1]

Construction and usage

The bridge was officially opened on Thursday 19 August 1915 by the Mayor of Collingwood, Cr. E. J. Brown. It was constructed at the cost of 2,200 pounds, partially funded by the Victorian Government.[2]

Concerns were raised by 1939 about the structual integrity of the bridge.[3] Collingwood Council undertook an inspection
