The Camberwell Swimming Pool was a public swimming pool and leisure facility located adjacent to Riversdale Park, Camberwell.
History
The Pool opened on 8 November 1927 with a capacity of over 220,000 gallons of water.[1]
As development in the area increased, as did the Pools visitation. Camberwell City Council reported average visitor numbers as 14,188 adults and 41,148 children from 1948 to 1953.[1]
In a report dated from 1953, the City of Camberwell proposed expanding the venue to account for this increased usage: "As has been said, the Pool is now overtaxed by the growth of population. The Camberwell Council fully realises that it is not in accordance with Olympic standards, and, when funds are available, will consider the building of a larger Pool on another site".[1]
