The F6 Freeway was one of the original new roads proposed as part of the 1969 Melbourne Transportation Plan. The northern section proposed to link the F5 Freeway in the north (today the Metropolitan Ring Road) to the Monash Freeway in the south.[1] This route would have taken it along the alignment of the former Outer Circle Line and through the middle of Boroondara. Following public outcry, this and other parts of the original Plan were abandoned in 1974.[2]
