History
Severn Street was built as one seven new streets created as part of the Tramway Estate in 1913, along with Nicholson Street, Hatfield Street, Corhampton Road, Aylmer Street, Maylands Avenue and part of Maud Street. It took until the late 1930s before most of the allotments were developed, mainly due to the slow construction of the electric tram along High Street and Doncaster Road.<ref name="BalwynNorthBalwynHeritageStudy">City of Boroondara. Balwyn and Balwyn North Heritage Study.
