Henry Rooks died at his home at 13 Inglesby Road, Camberwell, after a long illness. A by-election was organised for South Ward due to the vacancy caused by Rooks' death. [[James Henry Nettleton|James Nettleton]] was the only candidate nominated and succeded Rooks in his place.<ref>The Argus.
